Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, Saint Stephen of Hungary

Our Mission

The Concert Series at St. Monica, St. Elizabeth of Hungary, St. Stephen of Hungary was created in 2019 with the intention of providing a platform that features established and emerging musical artists to the Yorkville area. Now in our fifth season, we hope to further grow the series and continue to provide a musical, cultural hub that will benefit our community from the very young to the very old.

Admission is free, but donations are warmly accepted.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 22 at 3PM –  Salve Mater Fons Amoris

Join us as The Libero Canto Project returns this year with Salve mater fons amoris, (Hail Mother, Fountain of Love) -  a musical meditation on motherly love through the lens of three Baroque pieces: Salve Regina by Scarlatti, Trio Sonata in G Major by La Leonarda and Stabat Mater by Pergolesi.

 

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 19 at 3PM –  Songs from Mexico

Join Josaphat Contreras and Walter Aparicio as they perform a diverse program of Mexican composers that span 100 years in German, French, Italian & Spanish.

 

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 15 at 7PM – The Annual Christmas Concert

Join our Adult Choir, Children’s Choir & Contemporary Ensemble, along with our St. Monica Chamber Ensemble for some holiday cheer.

 

Compositions by D. Schaefer - DATE TBA in Autumn 2024. Join us for an evening of classical music, featuring both instrumental and choral pieces composed by our previous Director of Music, the late David Schaefer.  (This concert will be rescheduled for the 2024-2025 Season.) 

SUNDAY, MARCH 10 at 3PM – Piano, Violin & Cello Trio

Led by Skip Kennon, join us for an evening of classical solo piano and trio works by Bach, Chopin and Debussy. 

 

SUNDAY, APRIL 14 at 3PM – Organ Recital: Sándor Szabó

Dr. Sándor Szabó is a multi-faceted artist: an organist, pianist, harpsichordist, and conductor. His program includes the dramatic "First Sonata - Symphony" by Guilmant, colorful organ transcriptions by Lemare such as "Dance Macabre" and "Ride of the Valkyries," and jazzy "Gershwinesca" by Hakim.

 

SUNDAY, MAY 19 at 3PM – The Broadway Review

Back for our fifth season, our professional cantors and section leaders will present traditional and contemporary Broadway repetoire. Don't miss a special performance by our Children’s Choir!

 

FRIDAY, JUNE 14 at 7 pm – Songs and Reflections For Peace 

Our Adult Choir, Contemporary Ensemble & Children’s Choirs with our St. Monica Chamber Ensemble continue to explore themes of peace through spoken word and song. Inspirational readings, thoughts and quotes are interspersed throughout the program read by our lectors.
